ABOUT US

Dongjin Sung, MD, and Eunjae Sung, NP are cofounders of S Medi Lounge.  Dr. Sung is a physician-scientist who has been studying cellular antioxidants for the last 15 years.  His interest in oxidative damage at the cellular level started when he worked with Dr. Sung Soo Kim at Kyunghee University in Seoul, Korea.  Dr. Sung continued his research at the laboratory of Dr. Federico Gonzalez-Fernandez. In his laboratory, which is associated with SUNY at Buffalo, he found an opportunity to continue his interest in oxidative damage and protection. The lab has been studying the structure and function of a 140kDa glycoprotein that is secreted by the rods and cones of the retina. The extracellular matrix protein, known as Interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein (IRBP) is thought to bind and transport all-trans retinol in the “vitamin-A cycle”. He had been particularly interested in a novel function of IRBP reported in the older literature that was never followed up on, namely an ability to protect retinol from oxidative degradation. His data indicates that IRBP does have such an overlooked function, and significantly has thiol-based antioxidant activity.

Dr. Sung, as a physician-scientist, applies thiol-based antioxidant treatment to certain diseases such as neurodegenerative disease, autoimmune disease, and lung damage from COVID-19.  Their pathophysiology is possibly associated with oxidative damage to the cellular level.

Dongjin Sung and Eunjae Sung are brother and sister.  Eunjae Sung, NP introduced the medical lounge concept for IV therapy to the community.  This brother and sister look forward to having many customers enjoy this high-end IV therapy service.
